Breakfast in Bed
The thing we like most about Sunday Bucket is the little surprises. The ideas that we threw in the bucket a few months ago and have forgotten about, like last week’s pick, ‘Have Breakfast in Bed’. Yes please!
Now, any legit breakfast in bed has one chef and one barely-awake indulgent diner. So, I took Friday, surprising Lianne with some blueberry pancakes, fruit, and coffee, and then she took Saturday, adventurously tackling some vegan eggs benedict before I woke up at the crack of dawn.
For two mornings in a row, we stayed in bed a little longer than usual. We put just a little extra effort into breakfast. And we didn’t destroy the duvet cover.

Try a New Restaurant
This one was easy. With hundreds of restaurants in the Valley to choose from, and new spots opening each month, choosing a restaurant was the hardest part of this week’s challenge!
We keep a list of new restaurants to try, compiled randomly from personal recommendations, Phoenix Magazine, AZ Central, OpenTable: Phoenix Restaurants, and from getting lost exploring new areas of town. For this week, we picked Luci’s Healthy Marketplace, just west of I-51 in Phoenix on E Bethany Home Rd.
Luci’s is part restaurant, part coffee shop, and part general store. It’s perfect for a quick lunch, morning meeting, and YOUR Sunday Bucket! PS – Order the Naughty Nurse (below), she doesn’t disappoint.

On a Boat!
This summer, we’ve been spending a lot of time escaping the Arizona heat in Phoenix area lakes. Earlier this year, we discovered Canyon Lake and Lake Bartlett, and three weeks ago, we packed a picnic and headed to Lake Pleasant in search of an Arizona Beach.
So, when we picked “Rent a Boat” last Sunday, we had a pretty good idea of where to go. As the largest lake in the Phoenix area, Lake Pleasant has a good sized marina with boats of all sizes available to rent. We picked a Sport Boat with room for 8, and made it a family outing with our niece, nephew, Chris’ brother, and his wife. We definitely recommend bringing a small crowd, since the boat rentals can be pricey.
Beyond the boat, you can also rent tubes, wake boards, water skis, and dolphin jetpacks. Just kidding on that last one, but Lake Pleasant rental shops – please take note. The lake was much quieter in the morning, so if you opt for a half day rental, take the morning shift. Tubing, swimming, and taking turns at the wheel – we could get used to this!
